The fuze is the mechanism that determines when the ammunition will function; its body houses that mechanism and forms the interface connecting it to the projectile. The dimension and position of the threads ensure the fuze seats fully into the projectile.
Thread cutting and internal machining tolerances are very tight on a fuze body: a loose fit leaks, a tight fit causes assembly problems. Parts are checked with thread gauges and full dimensional inspection, with traceability records kept for every batch.
