The barrel is the tube through which the projectile accelerates and spins; its rifling dimensions and concentricity translate directly into accuracy. The flash hider at the muzzle breaks up the flash on firing and reduces recoil. The gas tube and gas block divert part of the propellant gas to the bolt group so the weapon cycles itself.
